Marvin Buchholzki Crowned Amateur Cup King

Marvin "Barvin" Buchholzki rocked the 2018 FMB Amateur Cup on the DFMT Series Circuit, a Bronze level National Series, finishing on the podium 7 times out of 9 contest, with 2 first place finishes at Dirtpark Böblingen and the Freeride Mountain Riverside Games, joining the ranks of Erik Fedko (who is now tearing it up on the CWX FMBA Slopestyle World Championship circuit) and Michael Riekeberg. We caught up with Marvin to talk about the 2018 season, what's been going on, how he learns new tricks and what's in store for 2019.

For the people that don’t know you, who are you?

My name is Marvin Buchholzki, I‘m 24 years old and I live in Mainz/Germany.

What are you up to at the moment?

A few weeks ago I signed with Identiti bikes, Halo Wheels and Gusset Components. I just came back from Barcelona, riding in La Poma Bikepark with the gang and to get comfy on the new bike. It feels insane!

How long have you been riding biking/riding DJ bikes?

I tried a lot of different action sports when I was younger, like skateboarding, inline skating and snowboarding, but then I started to jump with my bike in the local skatepark which was the best feeling ever! When I was ten years old I visited my current dirt spot for the first time, so it's been a while!

How does it feel to be the top rider of the 2018 Amateur Cup?

It feels awesome, because I reached all the goals I had for 2018.

What was your favorite contest this year?

The „Dirtpark Belsen Contest“ was my favorite one, because I did one of the best runs of my life. (That run put Marvin on the top spot of the podium)

What trick are you most stoked on landing during a contest?

I really like Backflip Tailwhips and all kinds of barspin combinations. #barvin

How do you approach contests?

I‘m trying to keep my mind free and to be focused on the run I want to do.

How do you learn new tricks?

When I'm learning something new, I start on the air bag, do a whole bunch of repetitions until I get it and then go to dirt. Landing a new trick on dirt is definitely the best feeling!

Which riders inspire you most?

Max Mey for sure! He‘s one of my best friends and the most talented slopestyle rider I know! He taught me a lot about tricks and about contests over the last few years.

What are your plans for the 2019 season?

I‘m trying my best to get onto the FMB World Tour Overall Ranking and I will work on a new video project.

Thanks for taking the time, Marvin and good luck in 2019!
