Canyon Factory Freeride Team secures FMB Factory Team Championship 2016
November 10, 2016After coming second to the Trek C3 Project in 2015, the Canyon Factory Freeride Team bit back this season securing the FMB Factory Team World Championship title in 2016! Thanks to great performances by Thomas Genon (BEL) and Tomas Lemoine (FRA) for their manufacturer, based in Koblenz, Germany, Canyon was able to disrupt Trek’s winning streak of two consecutive titles in 2014 and 2015. This year five different Factory Teams competed for points on the FMB World Tour: Canyon Factory Freeride Team, Trek C3 Project, Morpheus, ROSE and Mongoose.
Even though the Trek C3 Project was able to celebrate two FMB Diamonds Series wins by Brett Rheeder (CAN) at Red Bull Joyride and Brandon Semenuk (CAN) at Crankworx Rotorua, it was a high-level of consistency that let the Canyon Factory Freeride Team pull through in the end. Thomas Genon and Tomas Lemoine each secured three top ten ranks at four different FMB Events.
Trailing behind the Rheeder and Semenuk led Trek C3 Project after the first Diamond Event of the year in Rotorua New Zealand, top ten ranks at Red Bull Joyride and Swatch Prime Line as well as Thomas Genon’s win at the FMB Gold Event FISE Montpellier were enough to just beat the defending champs by only 30 points. „The team really nailed it this year! The atmosphere and chemistry between the athletes off the course is really important to us and I think we are in a very good position in this respect. We’re even happier now that the FMB ranking also reflects this as well. We’re stoked!“, explains Florian Goral, Sports Director MTB at Canyon.
The Morpheus team completes the FMB Factory Team podium this year. Impressive performances by Anthony Messere (CAN), Reed Boggs (USA) and Mitch Chubey (CAN) for the US based manufacturer led to the first podium spot since coming second in 2014. Especially Messere’s 6th place at Red Bull Joyride was essential to cementing the third rank in this year’s competition.
Following Morpheus, Rose can be proud of Torquato Testa’s (ITA) fantastic 6th place at the Diamond Event at Crankworx Rotorua in March and also 20-year-old German Lukas Knopf showed plenty of promise for the future due to three top ten finishes at three different FMB Gold Events. Mongoose’ scoreboard was lead by Paul Genovese (CAN), who compiled three of the six possible results, which included a solid performance at the FMB Diamond Event Swatch Prime Line, where he came in just shy of the top 10 in eleventh place.
